Project
This modular shoe store in Cobden Chambers reimagines footwear as a form of architecture—where identity, motion and design intersect. The space plays with adaptability through stepped platforms and modular display units, allowing constant reconfiguration. The store encourages personal expression, using structure and materiality to echo the layered complexity of style and culture. A red line travels throughout the store—not just as a visual accent, but as a guiding element that links form and function. The result is a spatial experience that responds to mood, meaning and movement—an environment shaped by the product as much as the wearer.
Spatial Concept
The design process began with an analysis of Cobden Chambers’ positive and negative space in plan, which informed the placement of three conceptual models. Two models were positioned facing one another to define ceiling levels and spatial boundaries, while a third—based on repetition—introduced rhythm and flow. Inspired by the visual language of Mirror’s Edge, the color red acts as intuitive wayfinding, guiding circulation through a continuous red lace integrated into the space. Just as in the game, red marks possibility and direction. The architecture becomes a physical shoe—its sole, laces and patterns shaping not only objects, but how people move through them.
