Research

The moment you enter this space, the towering cooling tower evokes a profound sense of awe, reminiscent of the Pantheon’s oculus. It stands as a symbol of human dedication, now abandoned yet awaiting rebirth as a sanctuary of light and energy. Natural elements—light from above, rain on the walls, shifting shadows—connect invisible structural forces with human perception, revealing a precise rhythm and intentional order. This space reflects the fundamental principles of architecture: the harmony between light, space, and order. Its true beauty lies not in decoration, but in the interplay of natural forces that shape it.

Project

Reinterpreting the cooling tower of Ratcliffe on Soar as a modern sanctuary. The work transforms a symbol of past industry into a monastic space, reborn as a place of tranquility and meditation.

The flowing rainwater and light tell us that this space is a connection point between time, sensation, and order. The experiences created by invisible forces interacting with the space reveal a deeper and more intrinsic beauty than human-made decorations. Here, within the restraint of light, energy, and structure, each person can find their own meaning.
