Hygge & Form
Design Studio 01

Project
Hygge & Form is a creative community space on the ground floor of Cobden Chambers, a former lace factory steeped in Nottingham’s industrial history. Inspired by the Danish concept of hygge: finding joy in stillness and connection. It supports inclusive, local artistic expression. The integration of clay forms, influenced by Sarah Burton’s pottery, is embedded within the architecture, inviting open, tactile exploration and blurring the line between art and environment. Form reflects structure, space, and creativity. With a climate echoing Denmark’s, the space offers warmth and inspiration year-round- encouraging people to slow down, make, and connect.
My atmospheric visual emphasises the curves within the interior of Hygge & Form, and how this relates to the form of pottery inspired by Burtons’ work. The use of curvature is a juxtaposition to the building itself, and I wanted to communicate this through this visual- how the new walls are pulled up from the floor- separating the old with the new.
