2086 Narrative

In 2086, humanity has traded itself to a Robotic Order in exchange for a "safety bubble" — a flawless, risk-free existence that makes people feel nothing, believing that human chaos breaks the order. Beyond the city walls, a rebel group called the Unsettlers refuses this perfect simulation. For them, a numb life is no life at all, and pain is part of being human. They believe the only way to awaken society is by causing discomfort. Hidden inside Nottingham's Lace Market Car Park, the Unsettlers rebuild a 19 Hz infrasound pipe organ, tuned to a frequency just below human hearing, capable of triggering primal fear. Forced Resonance is their treatment for a city that has forgotten how to feel.

Spatial Concept

Forced Resonance is a parasite hidden inside Nottingham's Lace Market Car Park, its form inspired by the shape of an infrasound wave. The entrance mimics the brutalism of a Robotic Order maintenance centre, familiar and safe, but a disorienting corridor descends the visitor underground with no way back. From there the ritual unfolds as a fixed sequence the visitor cannot escape: Water-Tank Therapy in the basement, an ascent through the Resonant Silo to face the organ's infrasound, a paint-powder ritual in the Connection Space, and Rooftop Absolution where rainwater washes the colour away. Throughout, the cold concrete of the host car park is set against organic materials such as bacterial cellulose, creating a visible tension between Robotic Order and Human Chaos.
