2085 Narrative

My aim was to create a space that acts as rehabilitation for VR isolation through re-establishing the culture of music.

As a 2085 society continue to fall into the enslavement of the virtual reality system, where time is dictated by the swing of the pendulum, it is often reminiscing the past freedoms of daily life are regular occurrences. The main value taken from the community has been the experience of live music, learning play instruments and the framework of culture that pairs with it.

Therefore, throughout Papplewick Pumping Station I have designed a series of spaces to challenge this and recreate the rock music scene. Highlighting the rituals: learning to play and teaching music, performing music and the mosh pit.

Spatial Concept

To create my main space I took inspiration from one of my initial ideas within my design which was to create a score based on how I interpreted the sounds of the site. Highlighting the repetitive nature of the machinery that mirrored the 2085 VR lifestyle and incorporated an unpredictable nature, which live music and humanity enhances. This score became the base of my scaffolding, bridge design and railing that guides the audience through the space.

Furthermore, to develop the levels that built the bridge pathway, I created stairs inspired by the design of an electric guitar to subtly promote the rock music genre.
