2085 Narrative
In a future where AI has cannibalised a world into a homogenous landscape, the queer community remains the last resilient group due to their rich modes of self-expression. They retreat to Papplewick Pumping Station unearthing a camera obscura, transforming it into a tool of resistance. Through its lens of distortion, and using alternative palettes of kink and restriction, they reimagine the site as a queer sanctuary - applying these elements like makeup to dragify the space into a brewery. Beer is brewed not only for consumption but also as a chemical agent in film development, capturing acts of identity, transformation, and rebellion. Bound & Brewed becomes an architecture of duality as by day it is a workshop of becoming and by night, a stage of liberation.
Spatial Concept
The spatial concept builds from the distortion of camera components, layering them with site imagery to create a surreal makeup palette of metallic, fluid forms. These forms are translated into ideas of restriction and queer expression, drawing from the aesthetics of drag and kink. Physical model explorations use latex and metallic hardware to create restrictive harnesses that give way to bulging, fluid plaster forms. These themes inform the architecture, embedding queerness into the site through distortion, restriction, and transformation. Resulting in a collection of feminised fermentation vats, swollen fluid containers, and boiling vessels that transform into performance stages, seamlessly blending function with identity.
