By Our Own Hands
CPU (Central Processing Unit)

2086 Narrative
“By Our Own Hands” takes place in 2086, where automation has taken over, jobs are obsolete, and people have to rely on a government income scheme. People have become numb due to over-reliance on their devices, and those who resist risk losing the government income scheme. Due to this, my building poses as a solution: Escape the monotonous outside world to learn how to be self sufficient and improve cognitive ability, by growing food hydroponically, dyeing fabric with plants, and making clothes, as a symbol of rebellion against conformity. The purpose of this is to rebel against the system that limits peoples' capacity to think for themselves, therefore creating the need for the rebel group: The Rebuilders: Rebuilding society through self sufficiency, by removing technology dependence.
Spatial Concept
My spatial concept derives from my symbolic object, the CPU, where I look into its manufacturing process and use the silicone wafer patterns, as well as the slicing and selection process of the wafers, to create unique forms and patterns, that are turned into bespoke furniture and spatial arrangements. Each silicone wafer has a unique function depending on the pattern, working harmoniously together to create the CPU, which defines the core principles of my building. The rebel group use the CPU as a cautionary tale as it is the brain of the computer, causing them to complete rituals such as making clothes to take back their own brains, so the building has a mesh that wraps around, showing how the group is breaking away from the constraints of the CPU.
