2085 Narrative

A catastrophic rise in the seas has reshaped the world, Papplewick Pumping Station once a landlocked haven is now exposed to the coastal elements. This disaster has stirred fear of nature itself, pushing people to retreat into a world dominated by technology. Hands-on experiences have all but disappeared, replaced by safe, screen-based alternatives. As a result, people have lost touch with their senses and with the natural world around them, leaving them disconnected and isolated from the very environment that sustains them.

Spatial Concept

Tidal Senses is a place created to bring people back to themselves and the world they’ve lost touch with. Through a series of sensory spaces inspired by the coastal environment, each designed to awaken a different sense, visitors are invited to slow down, feel, and reconnect. The site offers a hands-on experience that reminds people why our senses matter and how deeply they connect us to nature. It’s an invitation to pause, engage, and rediscover the power of touch, sound, smell, sight, and taste in a world too often lived through screens.
