By 2085, healing is no longer a right it’s a contract. What began as convenience smart pills, biometric trackers, AI diagnostics evolved into total control. The body’s ability to heal was slowly replaced, then forgotten.
Immunity is suppressed by medicated air. Newborns are engineered to depend on treatment. A cut no longer scabs. A fever no longer breaks. Every breath is managed. Healing isn’t just lost it’s denied.
But outside the sterile zones, something resists.
At the ruins of Papplewick Pumping Station, the air is unfiltered. Nature reclaims the site. Roots break through stone. Pollen reawakens dormant systems. Here, the body begins to remember.
This project transforms Papplewick from a machine of purification into a sanctuary of natural healing.
Spatial Concept
The project transforms Papplewick Pumping Station into a sanctuary for natural healing in a future where the body can no longer recover on its own. Nine spatial thresholds guide visitors through a slow ritual of reconnection beginning in the Purification Tunnel and ending in the Botanical Garden Exit. Each space reawakens the senses through elemental experiences of breath, water, scent, and soil. In the Sensory Distortion Zone, algae tubes and green walls disorient perception, allowing the body to reset. At the core, the Camera Obscura preserves the final untamed breath of life offering memory, not cure. Healing becomes ritual, not prescription.
