Project

The wellness centre, located at Victoria Embankment in Nottingham, is designed to support mental and physical health through calm, nature-inspired spaces. Its main feature is a large internal atrium with a glass dome and architectural trees.

The building includes yoga studios, sensory hydrotherapy pools, therapy rooms, and a café. Sustainable features such as a green roof, solar panels, and SuDS are integrated to manage rainwater and reduce environmental impact. Altogether, the project provides a restorative environment that blends therapeutic design with sustainable urban living.

Research

This research looks at how Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) can help manage surface water runoff in a flood-prone area in Wilford Grove, Nottingham.

This project tested how different SuDS methods perform, focusing mainly on a bioretention basin and a soakaway system. These researches were done by using the UK SuDS Performance Evaluation Tool.

The results showed that the bioretention basin worked better at holding water and removing pollutants. This helped inform design choices for a new wellness centre on the site. This research connects findings from the simulations to real design decisions and suggests ways to improve drainage and sustainability on the MSP project site.
