Project

At JW Studios, we set out to create more than just an extension for Leeds General Infirmary—we wanted to make a place that feels welcoming, hopeful, and distinctly human. Sitting alongside the historic wings, the new steel-and-glass façade softly catches the morning light, guiding patients and visitors toward a bright, airy atrium at its heart. Inside, carefully laid-out consultation rooms look out onto green pockets and city views, so every person who comes through the doors feels seen, supported, and connected—to nature, to care, and to community.

Research

Welcome to the heart of our findings, where thoughtful design meets genuine care. We discovered that abundant daylight doesn’t just brighten rooms—it brightens spirits. Modest ceiling heights feel comforting, not cavernous, and every carefully placed window offers a moment of connection to the outside world. Here, each choice—from the size of the opening to the texture of the wall finish—is an act of kindness, creating spaces that feel safe, warm, and full of possibility. In this section, you’ll see how these simple yet powerful strategies can transform a clinical room into a true sanctuary for young patients and their families.
