This manifesto proposes the transformation of the disused Smithfield Market a centrally located and historic site in London into a revitalized cultural destination. The project aims to breathe new life into the existing market structure while preserving its architectural heritage and historical access routes.
Located at the heart of the city, Smithfield Market offers strong potential as a public space that is accessible to a wide range of people. The design approach carefully balances respect for the site's historical significance with the introduction of new uses that ensure its continued relevance.
This is not just a redevelopment, but a vision for renewal turning Smithfield into a vibrant symbol of inclusive and sustainable urban regeneration.
London boasts a powerful operatic legacy, but between iconic institutions like the Royal Opera House and smaller, avant-garde venues lies an essential missing link a mid-sized opera house that promotes accessibility, nurtures talent, and supports economic resilience. This manifesto proposes the creation of a bold new opera house that bridges this gap and redefines the relationship between opera and its audience.
At the heart of the proposal is a 1,300-seat main opera house, accompanied by a 400-seat proscenium theatre and a 500-seat courtyard theatre. These supporting spaces are designed to cultivate emerging talent, enable experimental productions, and provide rehearsal environments for larger shows.
