Project

The Garden of Scents is a people-centered space that integrates Newark’s culture, history, and community needs. Far from being an isolated development, it actively contributes to the town’s identity by offering a fresh, culturally inspired experience rooted in sustainability, craftsmanship, and community engagement. It bridges Newark’s rich past with a vibrant, inclusive future.

In a world where fast-paced development often erodes identity, The Garden of Scents offers a sanctuary: a space to disconnect from routine, reflect, connect, and learn. The project draws inspiration from oud, a scent associated with sacredness across cultures.

Project

The Garden of Scents blends the calming qualities of oud with locally grown flowers to create a multisensory retreat that nurtures calm, focus, and belonging.

Rooted in Newark’s spirit of care and openness, the garden invites all to explore ideas while connecting with the town’s past and future. A community market highlights local makers and produce, while creative labs offer space to experiment, learn, and share skills.

Echoing Newark’s historic ties to craftsmanship, the project reintroduces artisanal practices linked to the River Trent’s heritage. The river, once vital to Newark’s crafts and industry, is now part of the creative process. By incorporating oud and locally crafted products, The Garden of Scents connects Newark’s traditions with innovation, fostering pride and continuity
