The NOW
Atelier 02: Urban Monastery

Spatial Concept
My original concept was inspired by a sacred object: a heart-shaped stone I once gave to my dad. He kept it for years and returned it to me when I left for university. This simple object carries deep emotional weight, symbolising the safety of my father, the comfort of home, and the enduring love of family. Through a process of experimentation, I eventually arrived at an organic design that embodies these sentiments—using petal-like forms to represent the protective, nurturing embrace of familial love.
Project
My final design draws inspiration from both my conceptual journey and a book that holds deep personal meaning for me—The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. This book explores the sacredness of the present moment and forms the philosophical foundation of the project. The spiritual retreat I’ve designed is envisioned as a transformative journey, guiding visitors through three distinct stages toward greater mindfulness and inner peace.
Acknowledge – This first stage invites visitors to confront the reality that much of their attention is consumed by the past or future.
Observe – The second stage brings visitors into the present moment through nature and light.
Practice - Practice gives visitors the skills to combat these thoughts on a daily bases through meditation and nature.
