Project
The Castle Respite Centre is a sanctuary for those effected by dementia, patients, families, and friends alike. where care, exploration, and reflection merge. Set within Newark Castle’s historic grounds, the centre reimagines care as an emotional journey, inviting all to engage with memory, presence, and the poignant presence of absence. Architecture here becomes a gentle guide, offering sensory-rich spaces that help overcome emotional challenges at every stage of dementia. Inspired by monastic courtyards and the castle’s legacy, the design creates freedom within the security of the walls, enabling moments of connection and reflection for both the diagnosed and their loved ones.
Project
Green spaces and nature encourage movement and sensory engagement, supporting mental well-being and rekindling memories. This is not a traditional care facility, it is a place where care is redefined, where architecture becomes a tool for healing, and where the journey does not end at the entrance. It is a haven for movement, exploration, and reflection, an architecture of empathy that intertwines human experience with the timeless rhythm of nature and history.
