Project

Music is a powerful force that fosters deep personal connections and unites people across cultures. Inspired by the tradition of exchanging friendship bracelets at Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, this design concept reflects music's ability to bring individuals together. Separate buildings, each representing a bead, are linked by a central corridor, forming a cohesive civic structure. The proposed Newark civic building—a music school and performance hall—addresses the lack of collective learning and modern performance spaces. With classrooms, ensemble rooms, offices, a foyer, a courtyard, private residences, and a public auditorium, the institution promotes education, performance, and community engagement. Biophilic design principles ensure a tranquil and immersive environment, blending in

Spatial Concept

Site research in Newark revealed a need for a state-of-the-art performance venue and a central space for music education. While private music teachers exist, there is no hub for collaboration.
The site design separates its three core functions: Performance, Teaching & Learning, and Eat & Socialise. The Performance space provides a premier artistic venue, while Teaching & Learning* fosters musical growth. Between them, Eat & Socialise serves as a meeting point for connection and community.
Each function is housed in a distinct building, interwoven like the beads of a friendship bracelet—individual yet unified. This reflects the harmony and interconnectedness music brings, creating a space for creativity, education, and social engagement.
