The Forge Pack

2086 Narrative
By 2086, state-controlled automation had replaced most forms of human labour, leading to unemployment, class division and a loss of individuality. Access to materials and creative expression became heavily restricted, leaving citizens dependent on the government for survival. In response, underground rebel groups formed within abandoned spaces across the UK, reclaiming forgotten buildings and discarded materials left behind after the collapse of the industrial manufacturing economy. These groups use salvaged metals from ruined structures as both a tool for survival and a symbol of resistance against state control. Their main object, known as the “Forge Pack”, is a portable furnace carried on the back, allowing members to melt, reshape and repurpose materials wherever they travel. Through making and creating, the groups attempt to restore identity, freedom and human expression within a controlled society.
Spatial Concept
The spatial concept is mainly focused around the idea of moulds and the process of shaping material. I took inspiration from industrial casting methods, where molten metal is poured into moulds and left to cool into new forms. This idea influenced both the layout and the shapes within the building, creating spaces that feel carved, contained and formed over time. The circulation follows mould-like channels that guide people through the ritual spaces almost like molten material flowing through a cast. A lot of the forms are heavy and enclosed, giving the feeling that the architecture itself has been shaped through pressure, heat and transformation rather than being traditionally constructed.
