Louis Payen-Grant
The Tethered Light Museum
This project was born from a desire to celebrate the often-overlooked stories of the Traveller community in Newark-on-Trent. Inspired by their rich cultural heritage, nomadic traditions, and deep-rooted presence in the area, the museum aims to create a civic space that not only educates but also fosters pride and visibility. The design draws from the community’s values of resilience, movement, and storytelling, incorporating themes such as boxing and migration as core narratives. Through layered spaces and a tiered structure, the museum mirrors the complexity of identity and journey. It stands as both a tribute and a platform for future generations.
