The project’s site location is the premises of the Former Police and Fire Station in Nottingham. It is located adjacent to the Arkwright and Newton Nottingham Trent University buildings. The Former Police and Fire Station building is a Grade II listed building, for which one of the design aims of the project is to preserve the character of it as much as possible, whilst creating a contemporary project.

As the existing building on site is U-shaped, it creates a courtyard. The courtyard is separated into two parts with a height difference of 3m. The project utilises this by placing the courtyard dance theatre accordingly with the stage sitting on the 3m courtyard side, allowing for heavy vehicles coming in through the existing route on site to service it.
