Architecture: BArch

Sanctuary of Mnemosyne

Sanctuary of Mnemosyne is a building located beside Newark Castle that hosts celebrations of life, exploring themes of memory, permanence, and identity through architecture. The project creates a calm and reflective civic space where people can gather to remember and celebrate lives lived. Inspired by the historic ruins of the castle, the design carefully balances contemporary architecture with the existing heritage of the site, allowing old and new to coexist. Spaces within the building are designed to encourage reflection, connection, and emotional transition through light, materiality, and movement. The project responds to the idea that memory can outlive physical existence, creating architecture that preserves stories, emotions, and collective identity.
