Camera Obscura

In 2086, creativity has been surrendered to AI, images are generated instantly, perfectly, and endlessly, leaving no trace of the human hand. In response, a quiet resistance emerges. Calling themselves The Refusers, they reject algorithmic creation and rediscover the ritual of the film camera — an act of patience, imperfection, and truth.

Hidden within Lace Market Car Park, they establish a sanctuary for analog practice. Here, photography is not immediate but earned as film is exposed, developed, washed, and printed through deliberate, human processes. Red-lit darkroom, workshops, gallery, and archive room transforms the brutalist structure into a space of ritual and reflection.
